INVITATION TO ATTEND from JUDY PETRY, CENTRAL REGION VP and JALENE FORBIS, PACIFIC REGION VP

As ASLRRA's Regional Vice Presidents, we are delighted to encourage you to attend and participate in this year's joint regional meeting in Kansas City, MO. Your Meeting Planning Committee has focused all of its energies on creating a valuable educational experience, full of opportunities to network and learn something new, while remaining mindful of the many commitments vying for your time and attention.

This meeting will provide a great mix of business and social activities starting on the social side with an optional service project and party with a purpose on Saturday, followed by an optional baseball game on Sunday afternoon (Royals v. Tampa Bay Rays), and continuing with receptions on Sunday and Monday evenings.  Monday's reception will be held aboard railcars provided by Watco Companies as we tour the Kansas City area.  On the business end of the program, and new to the educational lineup this year, is a simultaneous training session covering HazMat handling which is geared specifically to the interest of small railroads and conducted by the FRA experts, satisfying the mandatory triennial training requirement. Both sessions will enjoy breakfast, lunch, evening receptions, and breaks in our event sponsor exhibit area.  This event embraces all of the education, industry news, and social events that you've come to expect from an ASLRRA meeting.

Two additional educational sessions have been linked to this meeting as well:  A General Counsel's Legal Symposium, and a Drug & Alcohol Program Manager's Training Seminar with Signs & Symptoms Training.

After the great response by our members to previous service projects, this year our volunteers will start out the morning on Saturday at the Harvesters Food Bank, and then we will move to the Ararat Shrine Complex where we'll have lunch, followed by working on a variety of tasks to assist the organization.  We hope that you'll join us and participate in this program and help us to leave the city a little better than we found it, while networking and getting to know your fellow ASLRRA members better.  Later that evening, we'll hold a Party with a Purpose, benefitting the Shriner's organization and the good works that they perform helping sick children at the various Shriner Hospitals.

An energetic city forged by a rich history, Kansas City is brimming with activities to keep you entertained: eclectic cuisine, swinging jazz, one-of-a-kind museums, a thriving arts scene and fantastic shopping. The world-renowned jazz legacy continues today in clubs throughout the city. For barbecue lovers, the city's signature food can be found at more than 100 barbecue establishments, and the world's largest barbecue competition, American Royal Barbecue, will be taking place the weekend our conference starts. Pack your bags and discover something unique and unexpected in Kansas City.

Our hotel is the Intercontinental Kansas City at the Plaza. The Plaza is an outdoor museum of romantic Spanish architecture and European art, boasting more than 180 stores and distinctive boutiques and an eclectic mix of over two dozen restaurants.

So don't miss out on this opportunity to meet with your peers, while sharing ideas and networking with others in the industry. Make plans to head to Kansas City where we're working on building a strong program complete with new features and activities to help you connect.  We sincerely look forward to seeing you and welcoming you to this conference.
