Legislative Services

ASLRRA and Chambers, Conlon & Hartwell (CCH), a lobbying firm that specializes in legislative issues that are of interest to the short line and regional railroad industry provide a series of services of legislative interest to ASLRRA members.

Tax Credit Legislation

Recently Congress added a renewal of the tax credit legislation to their agenda for 2007. This legislation, in its earliest guise, provided funding for the infrastructure of Class II and III railroads that was valued at $500 million. In addition, the alternative minimum tax clause was removed from the legislation, freeing up a higher percentage of the funding to reach the actual railroads.

Railroad Day on Capitol Hill

This event, bringing hundreds or rail executives to Washington, DC, arranges for a day of meetings with elected officials and congressional staff members. These meetings are used to inform members of the House of Representatives and the Senate about important issues of the railroad industry in general.

Congressional Testimony

ASLRRA and CCH staff testify at key hearings in Congress. This testimony, given before a wide range of committees, provides the regional and short line industry with a voice in the offices of Washington's policy makers.
