The CheckPoint payroll system, provided by HCM, an ASLRRA associate member, is a fully internet-enabled payroll and Human Resources Information System (HRIS) that is integrated with Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) data and record keeping. NARS/National Academy of Railroad Sciences The National Academy of Railroad Sciences (NARS) is a collaborative partnership between Johnson County Community College (JCCC) and BNSF Railway Company. Located on the JCCC campus in Overland Park, Kansas, NARS is a state-of-the-art railroad learning facility and is a recognized leader in the preparation, certification, and continuing education of railroad professionals across the United States. Through a contract with the Academy, ASLRRA named NARS as the training provider of choice for the employees of its railroad members. This agreement gives more than 20,000 short line and regional railroad workers annually the opportunity to receive training in virtually every craft, including: locomotive engineer, conductor, yard crew, mechanical, maintenance, engineering, signal systems, and telecommunications. The Academy employs a blended learning approach, combining visual, auditory, and tactile teaching methods, including: classroom instruction, computer aided web-based training, and full function mock-ups and simulators. (Safety Assessment & Facilities Evaluation) is a program designed to encourage and facilitate improvements to safety and operating protocols on ASLRRA member railroads. Under this initiative, an ASLRRA representative will visit your railroad for a fee to perform a multi-day evaluation of safety procedures, operating practices, and property security. A key aspect of the evaluation is an analysis of the company's safety culture as it relates to every day job performance for all employees, including management. Transportation Occupational Medicine Consultants (TOMC) As mandated by 49 CFR Parts 227 and 229, "Occupational Noise Exposure for Railroad Operating Employees", all railroads must perform noise monitoring to determine exposure levels for train and engine employees. Other steps, such as hearing test administration, hearing conservation program implementation, and provision of hearing protection for affected employees, may also be required. In order to assist our members in their efforts to meet the requirements of this regulation, ASLRRA has partnered with TOMC to establish a program tailored specifically to short line railroads. As part of the program, TOMC will provide for ASLRRA members a consortium including: evaluation and interpretation of hearing test results, railroad-specific hearing and noise training, a noise monitoring program, and record keeping.
