The ASLRRA also provides a comprehensive series of services in the areas of safety and training. Ranging from representation with the FRA and assistance with compliance to comprehensive training from National Academy of Railroad Sciences (NARS), the association has a broad basis of expertise in these areas.
Safety Training Seminars
Safety seminars are conducted throughout the year in different geographical areas. These seminars provide training on topics such as Employee Safety, Engineer Certification, and Drug and Alcohol.
Model Programs
These programs are intended to help railroads' compliance with federal regulations. They include programs in: Engineer Certification, Drug and Alcohol, Continuous Welded Rail, Roadway Worker Protection and Power Brake Rules.
Project S.A.F.E. (Safety Assessment & Facilities Evaluation)
This program is designed to encourage and facilitate improvements to safety and operating protocol on member railroads. An ASLRRA representative will visit a railroad for a multi-day evaluation of safety procedures, operating practices, and property security. A Project S.A.F.E. visit begins with a meeting to outline the goals and objectives of the evaluation. After the inspection, the representative will conduct another meeting to present the findings of the visit. This allows member railroads to identify areas for improvement.
