Nominations are now being accepted for ASLRRA’s two safety awards: Safety Person of the Year and Most Improved Railroad. The winners of these awards will be honored at the ASLRRA Annual Convention in Orlando this coming May.
The Safety Person of the Year Award will recognize the small railroad employee who has demonstrated outstanding safety achievement, with special emphasis on initiatives that improve employee safety in the workplace. Any employee of an ASLRRA member railroad may be a candidate for this award. Among the considerations in selecting the winner of this award will be that the nominee has never sustained an FRA-reportable injury and has exhibited a high degree of safety awareness through visible promotion of safety programs and initiatives.
The Most Improved Railroad Award has undergone a change in the way it will be adjudicated this year. Unlike in previous years, when the award was given based solely on the railroad’s FRA Frequency Severity Index score, the recipient of this year’s award will be decided through a criteria-based selection process. This criteria includes: demonstration of improved safety over a period of at least three years; evidence of implementation of programs, processes and procedures that have resulted in a marked improvement in safety; and explanation of the "capital" (i.e manpower, funding, related resources, etc.) that have been devoted to improving safety.
Nominations for Safety Person of the Year should be sent as a letter on company letterhead and signed by the CEO of the nominated individual’s railroad. Nomination letters for Safety Person Of The Year should be sent to:
