Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway is in the process of developing a multimodal facility and business park in Midland, NC. “The project has the scale and vision to create a full-service, rail-centric logistics environment that we expect will accommodate a variety of warehousing, transloading and light manufacturing uses,” said AC&W President Robert Menzies......Alaska Railroad held a ceremonial groundbreaking on June 4 to mark the start of construction of its new 32-mile Port MacKenzie Rail Extension. When complete, the new line will link Port MacKenzie to the ARR main line......Anacostia Rail Holdings recently appointed Eric Smith as Manager-MIS, basing in Chicago, IL. Mr. Smith, who was formerly with GE Transportation Optimization Solutions, the former RMI, was also an instructor at the inaugural Car Hire Training course at the 2012 ASLRRA Convention in Indianapolis......Coos Bay Rail Link and the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay have now signed a ten-year agreement for CBR to continue as line operator. The line CBR operates runs from Eugene, OR, where it interchanges with Union Pacific, southwest via Coos Bay to Coquille, OR, totaling 134 route miles......Indicative of two ASLRRA member organizations working together for progress and prosperity, Electro-Motive Diesel recently announced that they had signed an agreement with Metrolink to supply up to 20 EMD F125 low-emission Spirit-class passenger locomotives. With this announcement, Metrolink becomes the first passenger railroad in the nation to purchase new locomotives designed to meet U.S. EPA Tier 4 emission standards. Deliveries from EMD to Metrolink are scheduled to begin in 2015......Greenbrier Companies has introduced Multi-Max, a multi-level rail car that it says “significantly advances the options for transporting autos by rail.” Multi-Max features a patented adjustable deck that allows it to shift between bi- and tri-level service using techniques previously unavailable and that allow for complete deck adjustment in as little as five hours and without removing the deck during reconfiguration......North Shore Railroads has announced the promotion of Pete Simcox to Director of Engineering. Mr. Simcox began his railroad career in 1975 and was recently installed as a member of the ASLRRA Technology Committee. Succeeding Mr. Simcox as Superintendent of Track is Pete Symons, who was most recently Assistant Superintendent of Track......OmniTRAX recently announced the appointment of John Kovac as Vice President of Transload Logistics. Mr. Kovac was earlier with BNSF. OmniTRAX also announced the appointment of William Pietsch as Regional Director of Sales and Marketing-North. Mr. Pietsch was most recently with J.B. Hunt Transport Services......Railway Age has debuted a new app for iPhones and iPads.  The app is available from the Apple iTunes store and is free of charge......Rio Grande Pacific has named Tres Meyer as Chief Operating Officer of its Nebraska Central Railroad. Mr. Meyer was earlier with RailAmerica and was most recently with the Kyle Railroad......Ritron has announced the latest version of its TeleSwitch remote switch. The company reports that the new remote switch incorporates a UHF or VHF radio transceiver and a dual relay DTMF decode that allows the remote and wireless control of any devices that can be turned on or off......Savage Services recently expanded its service offers at its terminals in Price and Salt Lake City, UT to include crude-by-rail transloading services and associated car storage on a manfiest basis. Services now offered at these two terminals include rail car switching, rail car spotting, transloading, truck transportation and car storage related to crude handling for rail transport......Wabtec has named Albert Neupaver its Chairman and CEO and Raymond Betler its President and Chief Operating Officer. Both appointments were effective May 14......Watco Mechanical Services has named Mark Peterson-Overton as Chief Operating Officer.  Also, Watco Transportation Services has named Brit Sonnier as General Manager for its Baton Rouge Southern Railroad.
