RSIA Dates

October 16, 2009

• DOT will require the ten states with the highest grade-crossing accident rates to develop action plans.
• Railroads must submit grade crossing inventories to DOT.
• States must submit grade crossing warning device inventory to DOT.
• DOT will evaluate and review state and local laws pertaining to railroad and grade crossing trespassing.

April 16, 2010

• DOT will propose model legislation for improving sight distance.
• DOT will require railroads to maintain toll-free telephone lines for reporting grade crossing problems.
• Railroads must report sold crossings to DOT.
