What is Project S.A.F.E.?
Project S.A.F.E. (Safety Assessment and Facilities Evaluation) is an evaluation of safety procedures, operating practices and property security. An ASLRRA representative will visit your company in order to assess these and other aspects of safety relating to everyday performance of all employees. The representative will observe employees on the job, review safety regulations, interview employees and review records, among other aspects of their visit.
What is the Benefit to Me?
The representative will visit with management at the beginning of the evaluation to discuss goals and objectives of the visit, and again at the end of the evaluation to discuss the findings. This will be supplemented by a written evaluation, to be used as a guideline to maintaining a high standard of safety.
What is the Cost?
Project S.A.F.E. is a service available to any ASLRRA member company at a cost of:
- $650 per day spent evaluating the company on-site.
- $350 per day traveling to and from the company on-site.

"ASLRRA's S.A.F.E. Program provided exactly what our railroad needed to be in compliance with FRA procedures and practices. Conducting an onsite safety assessment accompanied by immediate feedback and recommendations for improvement gave our employees the opportunity to learn and ask questions in the comfort of their workplace. Tom Streicher's review of our railroad, as well as his suggestions for improvements to operating protocols, helped lay a solid foundation for a safety culture at the A&M".
