Bridge Training
ASLRRA will be posting a list of training seminars and classes in the area of bridges. These events will concentrate on maintenance, inspection and other subjects. Check back here frequently for training opportunities as they become available. Short Line Bridge Inspection Training Do you and your employees have the training required to inspect your railroad's bridges for necessary maintenance items and structural deficiencies? If not, you could be overlooking potentially dangerous flaws in your infrastructure. Luckily, National Academy of Railroad Sciences has a solution! NARS' Bridge Inspection course covers the fundamentals of timber, concrete and steel bridge inspection. Individuals who would take this course would be Engineers, Roadmasters, Maintenance of Way employees, and Contractors. This training will enable a bridge inspector to identify required maintenance items and major structural deficiencies that require speed restrictions or prohibit traffic until remedial action has been taken. The course includes a pre-test, in-class training, field trips and inspections of various structures, and concludes with a final exam. There is no prerequisite and the course lasts one week. Class size will be between six and twelve students; NARS reserves the right to cancel a course if less than six students sign up. The date for the next course is: October 31 - November 4, 2011. CSX will also be offering bridge inspection training for its short line railroad partners. Participants should be those persons on short line and regional railroads whose duties including bridge inspection and related engineering. The training will be held at CSX's REDI-Center on Marietta Boulevard in Atlanta. CSX suggests that interested persons contact either Ms. Sharon DeBary, REDI-Center GM, at (404) 367-2943, or Mr. Steve Frazier, Manager-Engineering Training, at (404) 367-2879, for full particulars as to when these classes will be offered and what their cost will be. Norfolk Southern Corporation NS will be offering bridge inspection classes free of charge to their short line partners during the remainder of 2010.
