Railroad Day 2017 a Record Breaking Success


WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 7, 2017 – On March 2, 2017 a record number of citizen lobbyist railroaders, suppliers and customers met with their Congressional leaders to identify legislative strategies to grow rail opportunity. 367 Congressional offices hosted meetings for 456 visitors – a record number of participants for the annual event which has been held since 1999.

Building Rail Access for Customers and the Economy (BRACE) Act Introduced in the 115th Congress

WASHINGTON, DC – January 31, 2017 – The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) applauds the introduction of the Building Rail Access for Customers and the Economy (BRACE) Act in the House of Representatives (H.R. 721) yesterday evening by Representatives Lynn Jenkins (R-KS), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Rodney Davis (R-IL), and Dan Lipinski (D-IL). This bill will make the short line railroad track maintenance tax credit (45G) permanent, allowing small railroads to spend more of their revenue rehabilitating infrastructure that serves as a critical transportation connection for local shippers across the country. The tax credit expired December 31, 2016.

BRACE Act Reaches Critical Threshold in Senate and House

Washington, DC – October 4, 2016 – The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) announced today that the current bi-cameral Building Rail Access for Customers and the Economy (BRACE) Act (S. 2595) (H.R. 4626) has achieved majority in the Senate, with 51 co-sponsors, and in the House of Representatives with 221 co-sponsors.

ASLRRA Receives DOT Technology Grant for PTC Implementation

WASHINGTON, DC - August 16, 2016 - The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) has received a grant from FY2-16 Railroad Safety Technology Grant Funds, made available through the Department of Transportation and the Federal Railroad Administration. The $2.5 million dollar grant will support the development and implementation of a back-office product that delivers Positive Train Control (PTC). The product will be made available to all short line and regional railroads.

Short Line Railroad Rehabilitation Act Reaches 2000 Cosponsors

July 15th Testimony: ASLRRA Urges FRA to Reconsider Train Crew Staffing Rule

WASHINGTON - July 15, 2016 - Linda Bauer Darr, President of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) testified today before the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) at a public hearing on its proposed Appropriate Train Crew Size Rule, stating that the rule fails to adequately consider the economic impact to its small business members.  In addition, and more importantly, there is no evidence of a safety benefit generated by a second crew member in the locomotive.

ASLRRA Calls on FRA to Abandon Train Crew Staffing Rule

WASHINGTON - June 15, 2016 - The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) has urged the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to abandon its call to require two-person crews in many types of service, citing lack of consideration for economic impact to its small business members in the implementation of a rule with no proven safety benefit.

ASLRRA Announces Powerhouse Speaker Lineup for Its 2016 CONNECTIONS Convention

Short Line Safety Institute Seats Board of Directors and Advisory Board

Updated GCOR Publications Now Available

The General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR) is a set of operating rules for railroads in the United States. The GCOR is used by Class I railroads west of the Mississippi River, most of the Class II railroads, and many short line railroads.
