Instructor: C. Tyler Dick, Ph.D., P.E. joined RailTEC in June 2012 and is Lecturer and Principal Research Engineer as well as the NURail Assistant Director for Education. Dr. Dick holds a B.Sc. (1999) in civil engineering from the University of Manitoba and a M.S. (2001) and Ph.D. (2019) in civil engineering from the University of Illinois. He spent 11 years as a railway track design engineer with HDR Engineering in Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX where he specialized in route and relocation studies; rail operations simulation; and rail design of mainline alignments, industrial tracks, highway grade separations, hump classification yards and intermodal facilities. He brings his extensive rail design experience to the class room while teaching semester courses on railway project planning, design and construction, and on railway terminal design and operations. Dr. Dick's research focuses on railway mainline and yard capacity and design; railway network operations and performance; operations potential of advanced railway traffic control systems with virtual and moving blocks; railway energy efficiency; and predictive analytics for operations and maintenance planning.
