Distinguished Service Award Criteria

Named for former ASLRRA Chair Thomas L. Schlosser, this award will be presented on an annual basis to recognize an individual for their long-term significant service to the ASLRRA. This award will be presented at the Annual Conference & Exhibition. The criteria for this award are as follows:

  • The individual is employed or an officer of an active Railroad or Associate Member or recently retired from same;
  • The individual has been involved with the Association for a long period of time;
  • The individual has served in various capacities in service to the Association including, but not limited to, service on ASLRRA committees, service on the Board of Directors, or holding an office in the ASLRRA; or
  • The individual has initiated a significant new program or money saving project for the Association or its members.

These criteria are not cumulative, and a candidate does not have to meet each one to be given the award and the committee making the choice of whom to award it may take into consideration other relative factors. In essence, the award is to recognize outstanding, above and beyond the norm service to the Association. The person will be chosen by a committee consisting of the President of the Association, the Chairman of the Association, and three people appointed by the President. The President shall appoint one individual from active Associate Members and two individuals from the Railroad Members. Each of the committee members will serve three-year terms. In the first year, one will be appointed for a term of three years, one for a term of two years, and one for one year. At the end of his or her respective terms, each committee member may be appointed to one more term three-year term.
