Freight Railroads Meet with Us Congress on May 7

WASHINGTON, May 7, 2025 — Today the freight railroad industry — Class Is, short lines, suppliers and contractors to the industry, and the major Associations that represent them — will participate in a 25+ year tradition, Railroad Day on Capitol Hill. Participants will meet with 304 offices to ensure Congress understands their perspective when considering important legislation including Surface Transportation reauthorization, tax, and annual appropriations.

Kristin Bevil Testifies to Efficiency and Effectiveness of Federal Grant Programs

Washington, D.C., May 6, 2025 – Kristin Bevil, General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer, Pinsly Railroad testified at the House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials in a hearing titled, America Builds: Improving the Efficiency and Effectiveness of Federal Rail Assistance. In her testimony, Bevil detailed the transformative benefit of the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) grant program to short line railroads, and the needed assistance provided by the Railroad Crossing Elimination (RCE) and Section 130 programs in addressing railroad safety issues at grade crossings. Senate Rail Champions Introduce Short Line Railroad Maintenance Tax Credit Modernization Act

WASHINGTON, April 30, 2025 – Today, Senator Mike Crapo (Idaho), Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and Senator Ron Wyden (OR), ranking member of the Committee, introduced S. 1532, to modernize the Short Line Railroad Maintenance Tax Credit that has been responsible for driving more than $8B in private investment in short line rail infrastructure since the credit was introduced in 2005.

HDR Honored for Support of Military Veterans in Hiring and Retention Efforts

WASHINGTON – March 26, 2025 – ASLRRA today announced HDR as the recipient of the 2025 Veterans Engagement Award. Nominees are evaluated for their efforts to engage with military veterans, support veterans in the workplace and community, and attract veterans through hiring practices. This year’s winner, ASLRRA associate business member HDR, demonstrates noteworthy accomplishments in each of these categories, through its work with outside organizations and development of internal programs. Iowa Interstate Railroad to Receive ASLRRA's Environmental Award

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 26, 2025 — ASLRRA has selected the Iowa Interstate Railroad (IAIS) as the short line industry’s 2025 Environmental Award recipient. The award showcases the short line industry’s efforts to reduce the environmental impact of freight rail transportation, recognizing a Class II or III railroad that has implemented innovative programs that have reduced the railroad’s environmental impact or contributed to meeting sustainability goals for the railroad and/or their shipper(s).
